Rachel Eva Schley is a Research Associate at Harvard University. Her research focuses on the intersections of modern European, French, Jewish, North African, and colonial history and explores the relationships between colonialism and state institutions, religion and rights, as well as the politics of difference and citizenship. She received her PhD from UCLA in 2015 and is currently working on a monograph entitled, The Tyranny of Tolerance: France, Religion, and the Conquest of Algeria.
