Ali Altaf Mian is an Assistant Professor of Islamic studies at Seattle University. His fields of research include South Asian Islam, the history of Muslim legal thought and practice, and gender and sexuality in contemporary Islam. Dr. Mian is interested in questions of religious authority, Muslim traditionalism in colonial modernity, and critical approaches to the study of religion.
